Singapore welcomes travellers from around the world, but visa requirements depend on the passport or travel document you hold. While some nationalities can enter without applying for a visa in advance, others must obtain a valid Singapore entry visa before travelling.
Here is what you need to know about Singapore visa requirements, the application process and travelling from Indonesia.
Do You Need a Visa to Visit Singapore?
Not everyone needs a visa to enter Singapore. The requirement depends primarily on your nationality and the travel document you use.
According to Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), travellers holding documents issued by the following countries and places must obtain a valid entry visa before travelling:
Countries requiring a Singapore visa:
- Afghanistan
- Algeria
- Armenia
- Azerbaijan
- Bangladesh
- Belarus
- Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
- Egypt
- Georgia
- India
- Iran
- Iraq
- Jordan
- Kazakhstan
- Kosovo
- Kyrgyzstan
- Lebanon
- Libya
- Mali
- Moldova
- Morocco
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Russia
- Somalia
- South Sudan
- Sudan
- Syria
- Tajikistan
- Tunisia
- Turkmenistan
- Ukraine
- Uzbekistan and Yemen.
Certain other travel documents also require a visa, including refugee travel documents, Alien’s passports, Palestinian Authority passports and selected travel documents issued by Hong Kong, Macao and mainland China.
Travellers should check the latest requirements directly with ICA before booking their journey.
Important: Your residence permit in another country does not automatically determine your Singapore visa eligibility. For example, an expatriate living in Indonesia should check the requirements based on their passport nationality, not simply their Indonesian KITAS or KITAP.
What Are the Requirements for a Singapore Entry Visa?
Travellers who require a visa must obtain pre-entry permission before travelling to Singapore.
However, receiving a visa does not guarantee entry. The final decision is made by ICA officers at the immigration checkpoint.
A few important points to remember:
- Visa validity: The visa’s validity period is different from the permitted duration of your stay.
- Period of stay: Your permitted stay is stated in your electronic Visit Pass (e-Pass), issued after arrival.
- Passport: Every traveller, regardless of age, must have an individually issued and valid travel document.
- SG Arrival Card: All visitors must submit the SG Arrival Card within three days before arrival, including the day of arrival.
- Email address: Provide a valid email address to receive your electronic Visit Pass notification.
How to Apply for a Singapore Visa
If your nationality requires an entry visa, there are two main application routes.
- Apply through an authorised visa agent
Travellers without a local contact who has a Singpass or Corppass account can apply through an authorised visa agent appointed by a Singapore Overseas Mission.
- Apply through a Singapore Overseas Mission
Alternatively, applicants may submit their application through the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission, subject to its application procedures.
ICA does not accept visa applications at immigration counters.
Applicants should contact the relevant Singapore Overseas Mission to confirm the application process, supporting documents, fees and processing arrangements.
Travelling to Singapore from Indonesia: A Guide for Non-ASEAN Passport Holders
Indonesia is a popular base for expatriates travelling around Southeast Asia. However, holding an Indonesian residence permit does not automatically provide visa-free access to Singapore.
If you are a non-ASEAN national living in Indonesia, your Singapore visa requirements will depend on the passport you hold.
For example, an Indian, Chinese or Russian passport holder residing in Jakarta may have different entry requirements from an Indonesian passport holder.
If your nationality requires a Singapore visa, you should:
- Check your passport’s visa requirements through the Singapore ICA website.
- Confirm where you are eligible to submit your application from Indonesia.
- Prepare the required travel and supporting documents.
- Apply through the authorised visa agent or Singapore Overseas Mission responsible for your application.
- Wait for the visa decision before travelling.
- Submit your SG Arrival Card within three days before arrival.

What Is the SG Arrival Card?
The SG Arrival Card is a mandatory electronic declaration for travellers entering Singapore. It includes an electronic health declaration and is separate from a Singapore entry visa.
Visitors must submit it within three days before arriving in Singapore, including the arrival date.
You can complete the declaration through the official ICA SG Arrival Card service.
There is no need to submit a separate paper arrival card when the electronic declaration has been completed.
What Is the Singapore Electronic Visit Pass (e-Pass)?
Singapore issues an electronic Visit Pass, known as the e-Pass, to foreign visitors instead of stamping their passports upon arrival.
The e-Pass is sent digitally to the email address provided in the SG Arrival Card submission.
It confirms the period of stay granted by immigration authorities and the final date by which the visitor must leave Singapore.
Remember that your visa validity does not determine how long you can remain in Singapore. Always check the stay period stated in your e-Pass.
Can You Extend Your Stay in Singapore?
Visitors who wish to remain in Singapore beyond their authorised stay may apply for an extension of their Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP).
An extension is subject to ICA approval and should not be assumed to be automatic.
Applicants can review the requirements and submit a request through the official ICA Short-Term Visit Pass extension service.
What Is the Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF)?
Some travellers may qualify for Singapore’s Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF), which allows eligible passengers to enter Singapore for up to 96 hours while transiting to or from another country.
Eligibility may apply to nationals of:
- Commonwealth of Independent States countries.
- Georgia.
- India.
- Turkmenistan.
- Ukraine.
Certain travellers holding eligible travel documents issued by China may also qualify.
The facility is subject to specific eligibility conditions, including travel arrangements and qualifying onward journeys. It should not be treated as a general visa-free entry arrangement.
Check the full requirements through the official ICA Visa-Free Transit Facility guidelines.
Frequently Asked Questions About Singapore Visas
- Does holding an Indonesian KITAS mean I can enter Singapore without a visa?
No. Singapore visa requirements are based on your nationality and travel document. An Indonesian KITAS or KITAP does not automatically grant visa-free entry.
- Does a Singapore visa guarantee entry?
No. A visa is pre-entry permission, not an immigration pass. ICA officers make the final decision at the checkpoint.
- Is the SG Arrival Card the same as a Singapore visa?
No. The SG Arrival Card is an electronic arrival and health declaration. Travellers who require a visa must obtain one separately.
- How long can I stay in Singapore with a visa?
The permitted period of stay is determined by ICA and stated in your e-Pass. It is not necessarily the same as the visa’s validity period.
- Can I apply for a Singapore visa while living in Indonesia?
This depends on your nationality and the application arrangements of the relevant Singapore Overseas Mission. Eligible applicants may be able to apply through an authorised visa agent or the relevant mission.
